Difference Between Inkjet and Deskjet

Inkjet vs Deskjet

“Inkjet” and “deskjet” refer to printers. There are many different types of printers and different technologies are used for them. Many printers have been developed by certain companies and brands. They have registered specific names, for example, “deskjet” is an inkjet which has been developed by the company HP for desk use at home or office. Inkjet technology is very different from laser printing which is used in machines like Xerox copiers.

Inkjet Printers
Printers are of many different types. The main characteristic of inkjet printers is it uses a printhead which ejects very small, tiny droplets of ink onto the paper for printing. It is a computer printer, and the ink droplets create a digital image onto the paper. Inkjets may vary in size and range from very expensive to inexpensive models. Some are intended for home and office use while others are intended for professionals, and the machines might cost thousands of dollars.

The technology of inkjet printing developed mainly in the 1950s though the concept had been around for some time. The first inkjet printer using a computer was developed in the 1970s by Canon, Hewlett-Packard, and Epson. It could reproduce the images generated by computers. Today there are four, main manufacturers of inkjets: HP, Canon, Epson, and Lexmark. There are mainly two different technologies used in inkjet printing: DOD, Drop-On-Demand, and CIJ, Continuous Inkjet.

Deskjet Printers
Deskjet printers are especially the inkjets which have been developed and manufactured by HP. It is a series of inkjets which is used for desk purposes in the office and home and is a brand name for an inkjet developed by HP. HP uses the thermal inkjet process for its Deskjets. This technology was first developed in 1979 and was introduced in 1984 as Thinkjet. At first they could print only black and white, but later color printers were also developed.

The first Deskjet was launched in February of 1988 and could print two pages per minute. It was the first, single-sheet printer for desktop usage. There are many models which have been developed. The Deskjet 500 printer is a very high-speed printer which can print up to three pages in one minute and is compatible with Window’s True Type Fonts. When Deskjets were launched, they were an inexpensive alternate to laser printers and thus gained popularity.

Some of the features of Deskjets are: they are high-speed, may have wireless connectivity, lightweight, inexpensive, they have a disposable printhead which allows the print quality to be consistent as they can be replaced frequently as needed.

Summary:

1.Inkjet is a computer printer; it uses a printhead which ejects very small, tiny droplets of ink onto the paper for printing. The ink droplets create a digital image onto the paper. Deskjets are a series of inkjets which are used for desk purposes in the office and home and is a brand name for the Inkjet developed by HP.
2.Today there are four main manufacturers of inkjets: HP, Canon, Epson, and Lexmark; Deskjet is a brand name and manufactured only by HP.
3.There are mainly two different technologies used in inkjet printing DOD, Drop-On-Demand, and CIJ, Continuous Inkjet. Deskjets use thermal inkjets.
